DC Comics and Kellogg’s Coco Pops
Kellogg’s Arabia partnered with DC Comics for a Back To School campaign that featured the brand’s mascot Coco dressed as three of DC’s most popular heroes, BATMAN, SUPERMAN and THE GREEN LANTERN.
A limited edition comic strip was printed on the back of each of the boxes. When kids read the comic, they were prompted to use their mobile phone on the last frame of the story to get a heroic branded payoff.
Using augmented reality, when the reader held their mobile phone’s camera up to the box, a custom video would load and reveal the ending animated scene.
The project was delivered on time and was so well received that the clients in the Middle East used the motion graphics and animations for several broadcast commercials during the promotion.
As the Senior Producer and Creative Director, I had a few challenges. I had just one week to turn the deliverables around and I was working with one single art asset. I needed to turn this one art asset into several animations that would give each Coco hero their own motion style and color palette. I was also running approvals with DC and Kellogg’s international partners in the Middle East.
